Celebrating Baby Number Two | Tri-Cities Maternity Photography | Aida
This beautiful outdoor maternity session was the perfect reminder that maternity photos are about so much more than documenting a growing bump—they’re about celebrating the relationships, excitement, and love that already surround a child before they even arrive.
Set against the stunning backdrop of Burnaby’s mountains, water, and lush summer greenery, this session felt calm, joyful, and wonderfully authentic. The soft tones of mom’s flowing dress paired beautifully with the natural landscape, creating timeless images that will remain meaningful for years to come.
Including the Whole Family
One of my favourite parts of this session was seeing their little one interact with his parents. Becoming a big sibling is such an important milestone, and including older children in maternity photos helps tell the complete story of this season of life.
From cuddles in dad’s arms to playful airplane rides high above his head, their toddler brought so much personality and energy to the session. These moments weren't posed or forced—they were simply opportunities for this family to connect and enjoy time together.
Years from now, these photographs won't just remind them of the pregnancy. They'll remind them of who they were as a family before everything changed in the most beautiful way.
Natural Moments Over Perfect Poses
While gentle direction is always part of a maternity session, my goal is to create images that feel genuine rather than overly posed. The sweetest photographs often happen in the in-between moments—a shared smile, a forehead touch, a glance exchanged between partners, or a hand resting naturally on a growing belly.
This couple made that easy. Their connection was evident in every interaction, whether they were laughing together on the trail or quietly enjoying a moment in the tall grass. Natural connection and movement often create the most meaningful maternity portraits.
Why Outdoor Maternity Sessions Are So Special
Outdoor maternity sessions offer a sense of freedom and storytelling that is difficult to replicate elsewhere. The changing light, open spaces, and beautiful scenery create images that feel organic and timeless.
For Vancouver families, we're incredibly fortunate to have access to breathtaking locations where mountains, water, and greenery all come together. This setting perfectly reflected the peaceful anticipation of welcoming a new baby while giving their toddler plenty of room to explore and play.
The Perfect Transition Into a Newborn Session
One of the reasons we love maternity photography so much is that it becomes the beginning of a larger story. These images capture the anticipation, excitement, and connection before baby arrives.
Soon, this family will be holding their newest little one in their arms, and the memories from this maternity session will become even more meaningful. When paired with an in-home newborn session, these photographs create a beautiful visual story of a family's journey from pregnancy to parenthood.
There is something incredibly powerful about being able to look back and remember not only what this season looked like, but how it felt.
Planning Your Burnaby Maternity Session
If you're expecting and considering maternity photos, I recommend scheduling your session between 28 and 34 weeks when your baby bump is beautifully visible while you're still comfortable enough to move around and enjoy the experience.
Whether you choose a scenic outdoor location or the comfort of your own home, the goal is always the same: creating natural, heartfelt images that celebrate your growing family.
At Vancouver Newborn Photographers, maternity sessions are designed to be relaxed, family-focused, and filled with genuine connection—so you can remember this fleeting season exactly as it was.
Expecting a little one? We'd love to help tell your family's story from bump to baby with timeless maternity and newborn photography throughout Vancouver, Tri-Cities, and the Lower Mainland.
