What is Lifestyle Newborn Photography? | Vancouver, BC

“Lifestyle” and “posed” newborn photography are very different. Lifestyle is more natural and caters well to in-home photography as we can capture your family in different areas of your home (i.e. nursery, bedroom, living room etc.), and baby can be awake or asleep. Lifestyle sessions are typically shorter in nature while posed newborn photography requires specialized equipment and is typically done in a studio. These images require a lot more time, typically 2-3 hours, in order to capture baby asleep in those naked and/or wrapped poses (i.e. froggy pose, side laying, hands on chin, womb pose etc.). For posed newborn photography, an assistant should be present to ensure baby’s safety by acting as a spotter and support. Complicated newborn posing requires composite photos where an assistant is supporting baby’s head or neck and later edited out.

Lifestyle newborn photography is all about capturing baby in-home or on-location, and our newborn sessions are not only convenient but relaxed, comfortable and intimate. We find that when you’re in your own space and feeling comfortable that it translates into beautiful images that look organic and natural. We want you to be able to enjoy your session without having to pack up and head to a studio. Using natural vs. artificial lighting also provides added depth, texture and feeling so we can capture these special moments as authentically as possible.
